conchords, paula deen, yankees, grey gardens, dave chang

some catching up...

i loved the conchords concert. and though i've always thought myself to be a bret girl, jermaine was looking MIGHTY fine to me last week. that tall glass of water, that deep voice, and also i just found him to be more sociable and entertaining. bret broke some small toy piano right at the start. lots of plastic loose piano keys resulted. said keys were randomly tossed into the audience. the audience started out near silent which i took to be disinterest, then realized it was just quiet which allowed people to hear and appreciate every damn word. jermaine, i've been meaning to tell you. i LOVED the cassarole. i truly did. towards the end the audience got downright rowdy. lots of yelling and demanding things. lots of talking back and forth. at one point someone yelled to jermaine, "what's on your shirt?!" "what's on my shirt? sunglasses..." he said, seemingly bewildered at the randomness/pointlessness of the question. yet there it was, you saw it clearly as he opened up (and removed) his button down: a pair of sunglasses printed at the collar to look like sunglasses hung there at the neck. they did TWO encores and played 3 songs at the first one and two songs at the second. and we humored them when they asked us to stand up and go wild so that someone could take a photo of them from upstage with all of our waving hands in the background. cute.

i obviously went to the yankees home opener and though i'd have liked to see a win...the largeness of the loss meant we could easily sneak down in the 7th to seats on the lower level to get good photos of the field. and by "the field" i mean no less than 50 shots of robinson cano. i want to have his babies. ALL of them. however the fuck many he wants! and i can't even talk about saturday's game. seriously.

finally the HBO movie of grey gardens aired and i just loved it. though i wouldn't have considered myself a fan of drew barrymore, she did well. jessica lange was just ridiculous. completely insanely good.

this is the cutest. really.

i'm getting lunch cooked from a cart by dave chang. so yeah, i won but since i pretty much only have an hour i have no idea whether i'll have time to even eat. may send lacey to stake it out first, then join and have her wait in a line. if there is one. it's all very hush hush. have no idea where it's taking place. will report back when it's over if i get there and actually have time to eat.

this episode of wait! wait! don't tell me was hilarious. paula deen is my new pretend best friend. woman is an absolute riot.

still talking to the southerner. am going to start keeping track of his phrases. he'll say "bust a gut" instead of "cracked up." and if something is really good he'll call it "gravy" which i think is cute. i'm easily entertained these days.

Thrillist party, Grace Hotel

salad fingers, yankees, tired....

i cannot manage to catch up. on anything. errands, work, sleep.

i'm going to the yankees home opener, you know, THE FIRST REAL GAME IN THE NEW STADIUM! on thursday. HOLLA. seats right on the third base line.

my group's new obsession: salad fingers. there are several episodes. they are creepy. they may or not give you nightmares. that being said, i still can't stop watching.

we had a truly raucous easter. a potluck and lots of wine and champagne and these crazy cocktails with kumquats and mint. it later invoved costumes. and watching salad fingers. and then i passed out on ted's couch and vaguely remember ted telling me to stay and julie telling me to just borrow clothes from her to wear to work. in my crazy zombie state i stayed just to wake up at 1:30, have no idea where i was and cab it home. and i am feeling pretty rough for it.

the conchords concert is this week and i made a pretty penny on my spare set (thanks igor!)

i'm going to some pool party tomorrow. don't ask. and no, i'm not bringing a swimsuit.

linkedy link link

this, in short, is amazing. just truly a wondrous thing.

the volume button on my iphone is stuck. which, if you google, "iphone volume button stuck" is something that happens to A LOT of people. and then i found this guy, who spelled out how to fix what is an INSANELY annoying problem. and it may be my only option because the phone isn't under warranty and i've already scratched the button up trying to pull it out of the damn phone with tweezers (which was NOT fruitful, btw).

choire sicha and alex balk, my two favorite gawker alums have a new blog thingy. i've been perusing and when it's no longer locked, i'll link that shit up. it's pretty no-nonsense. a nicely well-rounded round-up of informational/entertaining tidbits. i can tell in about 3 words who wrote which post which is fine since i like both their voices so much anyhow. but i get the sense that in trying to avoid gawker-like snark, they're putting their humor on the shelf altogether. and THAT i don't agree with. they're clever and will make it work, i'm sure.

one-time gawker fave intern andy is blogging again here and turning out some really decent stuff. go read. NOW!

my new thing is typing "see" as "si" for some unbeknownst reason. it happens accidentally. all the time. so i must be secretly part mexican. or something. i do live in washington heights afterall.

MIA, trumpet players, boyfriends

so i saw the preservation hall jazz band last night and they were sooooooo good. and i love that style of music anyhow but it made me sad to have never been to new orleans. but i brought with me a new orleans native whose heart i could see leaping around in homesickness throughout the whole thing. i had the hugest smile on my face the whole time. also, the bandleader/trumpet player mark braud so reminded me of my high school crush, also a trumpet player. they both had such a serious demeanor onstage. a distracted-looking one that screamed, "i'm too busy paying attention to the band to care that there's an audience here." and BOY could they all play.

side note: the blue note will forever remind me of the place where i got the paper cut that wouldn't stop bleeding which caused me to meet and subsequently sleep with the trumpet player in michael buble's band. after which we got to talking about the civil rights act (don't ask) and i find out he's a republican. I SLEPT WITH A FREAKING REPUBLICAN! never again. don't tell anyone. it's embarrassing.

so i'd brought with me to the concert my friend shane who, if he wasn't gay, would be my boyfriend. he's just absolutely the perfect date. and when i told him i was eyeing the fries he insisted on ordering some. even though i protested, he knew that deep down, i wanted those damn things. and lo, they were good. and because french fries is not a real dinner (it is, but i don't widely talk about my feelings on that), we skipped over to mamoun's for falafel sandwiches afterwards. perfect.

busy and work and blah blah blah is my excuse for being gone.

have "dark was the night" concert tickets which i mentioned earlier but now david byrne (who i've seen in concert some 13000 times because the man and his bike are everywhere) and bon ivor are now added to the roster. wooohoo!

a new roommate moved in and i love love love her. also, she has a buzzed head so she won't leave tons of hair on the bathroom floor like my last one. score!

this is old, but here is the ridiculousness of glenn beck

have an event this week with my other boyfriend nigel barker. and another boyfriend of mine, robinson cano hit the first homerun in the new yankee stadium (and no, i don't give a shit that it was an exhibition game).

i'm sure there was more i was meant to tell you. although i'm certain i've forgotten most of it. i'm so lame. apologies!
