penny pinching
how jasmine saves money:
moves to a cheap cheap apt.
complains a lot to landlord re: unfinished apt. to no avail. looks up a few cases and sends them over to him. bingo!
makes own lattes.
buys a monthly metrocard and takes the subway, a lot, thereby making each subway ticket cost nearly $.50 instead of $2.00 AND i take the subway home always, even late at night.
having people over for dinner and having people bring food instead of going out.
switching to a 0% apr credit card with 0% interest on balance transfers (thank god for excellent credit).
give myself pedicures.
trips to trader joes to buy things cheap in in bulk.
being nicer to more guys at bars and getting more drinks bought for me AND taking advantage of manhattan hook ups...
finally starting to use my frequent flyer miles for trips.
and the biggest reason i have extra cash lying around lately? i got some excellent temp work. i'm doing document review (translated: really boring) for stuff protected by the attorney-privilege. it's a big firm, a big case (one you've read about in the papers) and i can have the job for as long as i want. and all for $28/hr plus time and a half for overtime. don't ya just love temp work? will post more about it all later but it WILL bore you to death so i'll keep it at a minimum...
12 people who played with me:
nice, jas. at least with the temp work, you can keep the shopping habit. well done.
my god! i need to find me some temp work. this whole real work thing isn't cutting it!
i should collect all your advices from your blog about living in nyc... since i'm moving there soon :)
"Droppin' some NYC" as some froends of mine once sang.
Nice hussle, jazzy! The number one thing I tell people about living in NYC (hell NY in general) you gotta know how to hussle!
Make that cheddah, girl!
Peace
great job jazz! welcome to the frugal world!!
LYMI!
I knew I should have stayed in school. That is the best temp pay I have ever heard of. I guess that's what you get for all those long hours of study.
I know several people who are pretty damn wealthy because they pinched pennies. Keep it up.
$28 an hour isn't bad for temp work. I know a few people who make a hell of a lot less than that fulltime. The crappy part is that it is temporary, but hey, the case against Lewis Libby seems like it will drag on for quite some time... My reccomend, get as much OT as they let you. $42 an hour adds up quick.
ok, what trips?? and when am i comming over for dinner!!!!
holy crap! they pay $28/hour for work in nyc? i'm working in the wrong place. that's twice what chefs in san diego get. anyway, the frugal life isn't bad. i have a friend that lives in tahoe and he gets by really really well on $5k a year. he lives in a house, snowboards 100+ days a year and everything.
"...do the hustle...do do do dedo dedo do do ..." ok enough of that.
anyway, woman, you are amazing... I am so impressed by your positive attitude! You could be really freaking out, but instead you take the bitch by the balls and play the game your way! love it!
(yeah, I don't know where that sentence came from, but I ran with it.)
Boy do I want a job like that!!
Nice moneysaving tips too. The home pedicures just make much more sense, because if you're anything like me you get bored of whatever colour is on your toes really quickly (or it chips) and it just gets stupidly expensive if you keep going back to the salon to get it re-done!
