wahi, student loans, happy 4th

from the morning news archive, written by a friend, rosecrans baldwin (whose book you WILL buy, whenever it finally drops) a diary of walking from one tip of manhattan to the other:

 

11:22 a.m.—The Dominican neighborhood of Washington Heights is now one of my favorite strips in New York. The street life is throbbing. St. Nicholas Boulevard is the spine of Manhattan this high on the island, and its low buildings offer good views. Stores are busy, produce is everywhere. Multiple times I spot a guy selling fresh juice out of a grocery cart (but still, no nachos!).

i think people will be talking about this today. just sent my friend jill a missive about why the man is an idiot which i'll pretty much just copy and paste here. LAZY? yes.

 

dude didn't make any payments. never kept in contact with his bank (which is rule number 1 when it comes to loans, make sure they always know where you are). he seems to be a guy that just didn't want to get a real job, kept going to school. never thought that he'd have to get around to even making payments on his interest? is insane? never worked while he tried to take the bar 4 times and let his girlfriend support him?
 
he is a loser and a freeloader. i feel he is getting what he deserves at this point. i mean, he has a compelling story re: foster homes and injuries but he chose all this debt. he didn't have to do any of the extra stuff. if he had medical bills maybe he shouldn't have then spent the next 26 years in school without working at all so that he could make a SINGLE loan payment. he admits he's made none. do you realize how crazy that is? he didn't make a single loan payment in the five years he took off between college and law school. and then, THEN the asshole gets a JD at hastings and then goes to get another law degree in england? that's just retarded!

have big plans for this weekend that include: laundry, several bbqs, topshop, laying out and a trip to visit the gays in fire island.
